Hola, Marcio

Meet Marcio, our latest hire, who just joined our Backend team in Berlin.

Hola!

I’m Marcio and I recently joined Wiredcraft’s Berlin team as a Junior Backend Developer. Before that I was living in France, most of the time in Paris, doing a PhD in Computer Science (Model Checking).

What are the three things you like about Wiredcraft?

The company values (build shit that matters); my colleagues, who are very nice people and are always there to give me their support; and the modern technology stack.

What’s the most adventurous experience you have had?

I think life as a whole is an adventurous experience. For me in particular, coming from a small town in Argentina to Paris, with a very limited budget. This included sleeping in front of Gare du Nord and receiving the help of a lot of amazing people.

If there’s one thing you recommend everyone in the world to do, what would it be?

Meditation. The ability to clean your mind at any time is very valuable these days. Going deeper, it gives you the ability to see the world with new eyes, without prejudice.

What’s your hometown like?

The town I grew up is Cordoba in Argentina. It’s a small city at the center of the country. I always loved to spend time at the rivers near the city, with my family, eating barbecue and swimming.

Book/movie you’ve read/seen that has inspired you?

I liked The Matrix when I was young, because of the Buddhist and programming metaphors. Another movie that comes to mind is Perfect Sense, it shows people trying to have a normal life even after losing most of their senses. Some books that I’m reading: Measure What Matters, The Book of Why, Algorithms to Live By, Homo Deus, Factfulness, and The Vital Question.

What are your hobbies?

I like to spend time with my wife, mostly by going around Berlin, visiting parks and lakes. I enjoy playing musical instruments like violin and piano although I don’t think I’m very good. I also like board games like chess, quoridor, and go. From time to time, I enjoy solving programming problems from competitive programming.

Have you travelled anywhere recently?

I went to Thailand for the Wiredcraft retreat and I had a nice time meeting new people (thank you!!!). Also, I went to Essaouira, Morocco, to present a paper from my thesis.
